SiteBoss Frequently Asked Questions

Questions? We Have Answers.

Product Info

In good site conditions, you can expect your vertical accuracy to be less than an inch. Horizontal position is almost always more accurate than vertical. As with all GPS equipment, SiteBoss’s accuracy is subject to several factors including distance from the base station, satellite signal obstructions, etc.

The SiteBoss Foreman with a 6” Tablet weighs just 4.4 lbs. making it the ideal lightweight option for field use.

SiteBoss Foreman can work as a base, radio rover or network rover, but in base mode it broadcasts with a UHF radio only.

The SiteBoss Super can also work as a base or rover, but has an internal modem and external radio comm port in addition to the internal UHF radio. This makes the Super a much more versatile receiver. With the additional communication options, the Super has increased brand compatibility and can work as a network base station. In addition, the Super has an LED display which shows battery percentage and number of satellites tracked.

The batteries in both the GPS antenna and tablet will typically last a minimum of 10 hours. All components charge with a USB-C charging cable.

Key features include tilt functionality, four satellite constellations, internal UHF radio, and a simple interface for fast, accurate staking.

SiteBoss uses .XML, .DXF, and .TXT, for Linework, Surface and Point Files. It uses .XML for localization files and will also work with .loc files in the near future.

Technical Support

Yes! You can view our tutorial videos in the support menu right from your tablet while you’re in the field. Or head over to our SiteBoss YouTube channel to view more than 30 videos covering everything you need to run your equipment. While you’re there, be sure to subscribe to our channel to be notified when new videos are released.

SiteBoss offers unmatched US-based live support, including a call response time of 15 minutes or less (1-2 minute average response time in 2025) and unlimited remote support for $800 per year. Send requests easily while in the field directly from your rover. In addition, we can also provide annual reports, so you know exactly how much support you’re using. If it turns out you don’t need much, we’ll switch you over to time-and-materials to lower your cost further.

SiteBoss makes data conversion extremely easy. The Data Prep Support menu allows users to send files directly from the tablet for conversion, along with the option to pay directly from the same menu. Real-time quotes can be provided, and files can be sent for model preparation. Once the data has been converted and/or prepped for use, it will be sent directly back to the tablet to be loaded.

Please first see the relevant support video below, Building a Project, for step-by-step instructions on how to load files from a USB drive. SiteSync is also a great tool for loading or off-loading data from a computer. There are a variety of instruction videos both on our YouTube channel and within the tablet walking you through this process. Coming soon, if we provide your data prep services, your data will automatically upload to your SiteBoss tablet when complete.

It’s recommended to mount your base station on a permanent post. This post should be in a location that will not be disturbed for the duration of the project in an open area free from trees, buildings, sky cover, etc. When done this way, the base can be simply mounted to the post and turned on – no additional action is required to get to work.

To have a project quoted, SiteBoss will need only a comprehensive PDF set, inclusive of any work that you’re looking to perform. Once quoted, SiteBoss requires all associated CAD files, as well as a control points file (this is often embedded in the CAD). Turnaround time begins once SiteBoss has received all files.

Compatibility & Integrations

SiteBoss is compatible with almost all major brands as long as they are using UHF radios. Some manufacturers push Spread Spectrum radios which are proprietary from one brand to the next. SiteBoss can also use cellular communication instead of radio on both the base and the rover. Please reach out to your SiteBoss representative with any specific questions on alternate-brand compatibility.

No, all SiteBoss tablets have been extensively vetted and must meet certain requirements before we will install our program. Therefore, to ensure performance, we will only install SiteBoss on the tablets we sell.

SiteBoss offers a robust indicate system for dozers, skid steers, graders, scrapers, etc. – anything with a blade. Install time is extremely minimal, and calibration is a matter of taking a handful of measurements. For $7500, you can add the BLADE package to your current SiteBoss Rover to work on the machines listed. In addition, it utilizes the same easy-to-use SiteBoss software that you see when it operates as just a rover. Give us a call at (207) 800-5369 or submit a contact form if you want to learn more about BLADE.

SiteBoss is an extremely compatible system, aimed at having the ability to work hand-in-hand with other brand manufacturers. Unfortunately, not all other manufacturers have the same goal.

You may or may not. There are base station networks throughout the country, some free and some subscription based. If there is a base station network in your area you may be able to avoid purchasing a base station.

Certain factors that could indicate you’ll need a base station include:

  • No base station network in the area
  • Poor cellular coverage
  • Adverse topography
  • Base station network available but doesn’t use all satellite constellations

SiteBoss personnel have a strong knowledge of all available networks and their capabilities. For further clarification, please contact us and we’ll be happy to advise you.

While we don’t typically accept trade-ins, we do sell all kinds of construction layout equipment on consignment through NextDayGPS.

In most cases, we charge a 10% consignment fee plus T&M. This covers any work we put into your equipment to get it to a saleable condition plus testing the equipment.

The SiteBoss GPS Rover was designed with ease-of-use in mind. New SiteBoss users are typically ready to go after 1-2 hours of remote training. Many other systems can take a half-a-day or more of onsite training to get your crew up and running,

GPS construction staking is a method used to mark specific locations and elevations on a construction site using GPS technology. It helps ensure accurate placement of structures and materials, reduce errors and costly rework, and save time during the layout process. GPS staking works by using satellite signals to determine precise points on a construction site. Surveyors use GPS equipment to mark these locations for construction.

GPS construction staking can be valuable on virtually any outdoor residential or commercial construction site involving earthwork where layout is needed.
